PREPARING PALLETS

Do It Right.

GUIDELINES FOR SHIPPING FREIGHT

Follow these useful tips and requirements for preparing palletized freight shipments. At Go Go Go, we know proper packaging of your freight is the best way to ensure that your shipment arrives safely at its destination.

A GUIDE TO PREPARING PALLETS

1. CHOOSE A STACKING STYLE

The orientation of cartons in a pallet can have a big impact on the integrity of the shipment. Column stacking increases the top-to-bottom compression strength for most palletized shipments. If the carton contents are rigid, interlocking cartons will provide increased stability.

2. NO OVERHANGING

Packages and contents on a pallet should fit on the pallet without hanging over the edge. Overhanging stacks reduce compression strength and get damaged easily since it subjects packages to tears, punctures and other contact during transit. Shipments with overhanging contents will not be accepted.

3. LEVEL TOP

Always maintain the top contents of the pallet with a level surface. This provides better strength and stability when a pallet is double-stacked. Any non-stackable pallets incur surcharges due to the wasted premium space during transit.

4. WRAP OR STRAP

Strapping is used to secure the contents to the pallet and stretch wrap is used to prevent load shifting. When wrapping, make sure to include the pallet itself.

5. CLEAR LABELS

Pallets may be stacked during transport, so handling and transportation labels need to be clearly visible and positioned on the sides, not the top. Remove any previous labels and markings that are no longer applicable.
